Not Just Another Fad Diet
If you are like me you have been on one fab diet after another and it seems that the minute you tell yourself that you are on a diet, does the fridge and cupboards all learn how to shout out your name, tempting you to them. Your body hurts for foods that normally you can live without.
Weight Management Hypnotherapy is not a magic wand. We have all heard of those people who go to a hypnotherapist and never eat chocolate again. Do you really want NEVER to eat chocolate again? Really? Of course not! You just want to be able to control your relationship to it. If you don’t eat chocolate you will replace it with something else just as calorific.
Happiness does not happen because you’re losing weight. However, you could lose weight because you are happy and that is part of this process. Looking at your neurologically relationship to food can create happiness around food… thus making it easier for you to make better choices about food, amount, timing without that internal negative commentary.

Our Relationship to Food
The majority of pathways are created early in our lives…. For example you get rewarded with sweets if you’re upset. This creates a pattern match within the primitive brain (Hippocampus) and as it happens again and again the hippocampus creates the pattern and the emotion attachments are set. So that, every time you face something difficult you then reward yourself with food. This is the fix!
Knowing why and when we repeat patterns of food related behaviour is extremely powerful. By learning and acknowledging these patterns you can apply practical steps to get you back on track. Thus getting you back in control and making better choices without thinking and feeling motivated to increase movement (exercise).
The Science
Adipose Tissue (connective tissue helps in the storage of fat or lipid cells (adipocytes)) contains proteins called Leptin, our natural message to the brain that we are full. However, the more leptin that is produced it has the opposite effect and we are encouraged to continue eating. This is until we are at the stage where we are bursting at the seams. As we lose weight, we decrease this storage of Adipose Tissue, thus bring our Leptin levels into normal range.
Being encouraged to eat slowly when losing weight is part of the re-learning. When we eat a message is sent to the brain… taking up to 20 minutes to reach it. In the stomach we also produce the hormone Ghrelin, which is the natural hunger hormone and is our body weight regulator. When you do a calorie controlled diet, even after a year, the Ghrelin has been shown to be higher with the Leptin lower, thus creating a miss match and thus weight starts to increase once again.
Ghrelin
“Ghrelin is a multifaceted gut hormone which activates its receptor, growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R). Ghrelin’s hallmark functions are its stimulatory effects on food intake, fat deposition and growth hormone release. Ghrelin is famously known as the “hunger hormone”.
Today’s obesity epidemic appears to be accelerated by the chronic stress of modern life, unsuccessful attempts at food restriction (fad diets), plus our independent pathways created of rewards verses highly pleasurable food. This is where Hypnotherapy can really help.
Weight Management Hypnotherapy
Weight Management Hypnotherapy deals with refocusing the mind to reframe those pathways and creating new ones. Taking those emotional attachments (hippocampus) and traversing them into the pre-frontal cortex where control is obtained. This in addition, gives your subconscious mind the ability to change those pathways, creating happiness. Thus allowing sustainable, lasting weight loss to occur.
