Having Trouble With Menopause?
Night sweats, hot flushes, anxiety and mood swings… are these some of what you are suffering from with your menopause? I know exactly how you are feeling, you’re not alone. This can be a very challenging time for us women, menopause it’s just a natural process of ageing. Similarly men can also go through a process that is much the same, causing anxiety, mood swings, erectile dysfunction and identity crisis. This is commonly referred to as a mid-life crisis. In addition of course, they also do suffer and can be just as mystifying to them as it is to us.
The menopause can completely change everything that we know and our identity as women. Usually the menopause occurs between 45-55 according to the NHS. And of course each of us are different and many start earlier or later, with the menopause lasting at least 10 years.
Peri-menopause
Peri-menopause refers to the time range before a woman experiences her final period. In fact it is often not picked up soon enough via blood tests in order to receive assistance from the GP.

Using Hypnosis to Overcome Life Changes
Hypnotherapy for Menopause
As a woman in my “peri-menopause” and having been here now for 8 years, I was losing the will to live with the medical profession. I was absolutely convinced that I was not premenopausal but now in full blown menopause.
The NHS however, insisted it was peri; my response, “god help everyone on the planet if this is peri”. Even gynaecologists differed with their diagnosis. A lady gynaecologist in Lincoln, informed me, that due to the fact I was under 50, blood tests would not be the right test. They suggested that if they took bloods three times in one day, the results would all give a different conclusion. Therefore, you could only really honestly tell by a woman’s symptoms whether she was or wasn’t menopausal.
Another gynaecologist (older gentleman) told me that medically, “if a woman is still having a period that she is premenopausal until she has not had a period for over a year then and only then would she be classed as menopausal”.
Is the Menopause Understood?
Menopause is still being understood by the medical profession, women, men and our employers. Menopause appears to be the new medical issue in the spotlight and rightly so. A male friend said to me, why are us men not taught about this? It hits us like a rocket and we have no idea what is happening to the woman we love. I laughed, yes he’s right, but they don’t really tell us what to expect either. With a perpetual list of symptoms and each lady’s degree of severity so vastly different, even from mother to daughter or sister to sister, it’s really easy to understand why it is so misunderstood.
I am a larger lady, with a history of gynaecological problems. Consequently, having tried everything holistic to assist with my hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, extra weight gain, the constant bladder infections, heavier bleeding, crying, brain fog, sleep difficulties and the dry mouth; Feeling I had no option, I turned to HRT.
After all this, I finally, finally, finally discovered Hypnotherapy and its benefits. I started my hypnotherapy training and discovered that hypnosis could indeed assist me. I have not looked back since.
Menopause Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis in menopause treatment is in the early stages. Studies so far have discovered that there are no negative side effects and can reduce menopausal symptoms.
A panel of experts from the North American Menopause Society in 2015 concluded that there was solid evidence that both hypnotherapy and CBT were beneficial. They proved that hypnotherapy can reduce the severity of hot flushes and night sweats by looking at the triggers that cause the symptoms.
